Who is IV Sedation recommended for?
Talk to our dentists

You’ll find we are all very friendly and approachable, and we do encourage patients to talk to us about any concerns they may have over treatments.

Not surprisingly, a fear of being in pain is often an issue, but you can rest assured we will make sure you receive sufficient local anaesthetic so you don’t feel a thing during treatment. We will regularly check on you to make sure you are okay, or if you feel you need a break you can simply raise your hand to stop treatment for a bit. You’ll find we are all very good at giving local anaesthetic with the minimum of discomfort, as the injection site can first be numbed with a topical cream.

IV Sedation

For some patients visiting the dentist can be a daunting experience. That’s why at Blue House Dental, we offer Intravenous (IV) Sedation through Xaler. IV Sedation is a safe and effective way to turn your dental visit into a pain-free and anxiety-free experience.

IV Sedation, also known as Twilight Dentistry, is a specialised dental technique involving the intravenous administration of a sedative before dental procedures. IV Sedation is ideal for patients who are anxious, fearful, or unable to endure the discomfort associated with some dental treatments.

Who is IV Sedation recommended for?

IV Sedation is recommended for patients who:

  1. Are undergoing extensive dental work, IV Sedation will ensure their comfort throughout the procedure
  2. Experience significant stress or fear related to dental treatments, IV Sedation can help patients relax and reduce anxiety
  3. Have a low tolerance for pain or a pronounced gag reflex, IV Sedation can help these patients find relief, making dental work more manageable

Your IV Sedation Experience

At Blue House Dental, we prioritise your safety and comfort throughout the IV Sedation process. Here’s what you can expect:

Step 1Your sedationist will insert a thin needle into a vein in your hand or arm, connecting it to an IV line. If you’re concerned about pain or needles, a numbing cream may be applied to your skin before the injection

Step 2While receiving the sedative, your vital signs will be continuously monitored to ensure your well-being during dental procedures. You will feel relaxed and at ease throughout the process.

Step 3Once your dental work is complete, you might feel a bit drowsy. Your sedationist will recheck your vital signs to ensure a smooth recovery. For your safety, we recommend arranging for a friend or family member to drive you home after the procedure.
