Keeping Your Teeth Straight After Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an almost-invisible treatment for straightening teeth which replaces the need for metal braces for most people. Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth and gradually move them into place. Invisalign is popular because it allows you to eat whatever you normally do, provided you remove the aligners while you consume the food (or drink anything other than plain water). Then you just clean your teeth and pop your clean aligners back in. They're also popular with adults who didn't have their teeth straightened when they were teenagers or didn't wear their retainers.

Busy people also find Invisalign effective because the custom-made aligners come in graduated sets. You only need to see your dentist every six to eight weeks, rather than fortnightly for braces.

How It Works

Invisalign® treatment uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten and/or realign your teeth over time. They are much more flexible and less noticeable than other dental realignment solutions, such as traditional metal braces. Exceptionally crooked teeth may require initial straightening with a different type of treatment, but at a certain stage of correction, it may be possible to switch to Invisalign®.

Our professionally trained dentists at National Dental Care can help transform your appearance and achieve your ideal smile. Discover why invisible aligners are the clear choice for your oral health.

The Timeline

Depending on the condition of your teeth prior to treatment, Invisalign® can take from six months to anything up to two years; your dentist will explain how long the treatment will take for you, as each case is different. When you visit your dentist for your first Invisalign® appointment, your practitioner will scan your teeth using an iTero® - this scan will then be used to create images of how your teeth could look at each stage of progress and what the finished result may be.

Most people find that being able to see the progress before the fact, is highly encouraging. Especially when you're just contemplating a treatment.

Keeping Your Teeth Straight After Invisalign®?

When you have completed your treatment, and achieved the optimal straightening for your teeth, you will be measured and given a customised retainer, that is to be worn at night to ensure your teeth stay straight for the years to come - your dentist will explain how to wear and care for your retainer.
