Dr Marcio, tell us a bit about your background and how you got into dentistry

I’m originally from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and have over 17 years of experience in the field of dentistry. Since 2021, I’ve worked as an Associate Dentist at National Dental Care’s South Terrace practice here in Adelaide.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Dentistry in 2006, I completed two other post-graduate courses - in Endodontics and Implant Dentistry - to become a specialist in both these applications. I also completed a Master’s Degree in Dentistry, which led to me lecturing as a Professor of Implant Dentistry.

As you can tell, I really enjoy immersing myself in an academic environment and am always learning about the latest dental technologies.

What qualities do you feel are important for a dentist to possess?

In my opinion, a dentist needs to be eager to learn and have an understanding that there are no limits when it comes to quality and excellence.

What’s more, a dentist needs to perform from a place of love and kindness, with a focus on providing the highest level of service to every one of their patients.

What made you choose to specialise in implants? What do you find rewarding about this treatment area?

I think it’s amazing to be able to restore function and aesthetics to someone’s teeth and smile, even in the most challenging of cases. There’s a real beauty to oral rehabilitation - and to be able to see the smile on a patient’s face after the treatment is complete is a truly priceless reward. Ultimately, implant dentistry is all about enhancing people’s quality of life.

What advice would you give to patients who would benefit from a dental implant, but have reservations about this treatment?

I would encourage every patient to prioritise their oral rehabilitation because the boost in their quality of life will be significant. I think the key is to focus on the fact that they are investing in themselves.

To help patients who are considering dental implants but may be concerned about cost, National Dental Care Group offers payment options such as the Smile Fund, which can assist with the financial side of this treatment.

If you’re thinking about dental implants but have queries or concerns, I’d urge you to talk to your local dentist so you can find out more about your options.

Finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to spend time with my beautiful family, as well as serving at my local church. I also love surfing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and music. Book an appointment with your local National Dental Care Group practice today - Click here to find your nearest dental practice.
