What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are designed to cover imperfections, such as discolouration, gaps, chips, or misalignment, and provide a natural and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Veneers are a popular choice for those seeking a permanent solution to enhance their smile
At National Dental Care Findon, your dentist can help you determine which type of veneer is best for you based on your needs, preferences, and the condition of your teeth. The two main types of veneers are:
Before getting veneers, it's important to consider all the facts. While porcelain veneers offer many benefits, the procedure is irreversible and involves removing a small amount of enamel. It's also important to be aware that veneers can be easily damaged by excessive biting forces or habits like nail-biting or chewing on hard objects.
The different types of veneers
Composite Veneers (direct veneers): Composite veneers are the most common type, and are popular for their lower cost and fast application. They are custom-made out of composite material that is added to the front of your tooth by an experienced cosmetic dentist.
Composite veneers are used to mask discolouration, brighten teeth, and improve the look of your smile. These veneers are usually used for minor cosmetic issues, such as cracking and chipping, but they can also cover small gaps between teeth.
This procedure requires little or no anaesthesia and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth.
Porcelain Veneers (indirect veneers): The procedure for Porcelain veneers is a relatively quick way to enhance the natural look of your smile.
As the name suggests, porcelain veneers involve a porcelain tooth-shaped shell that is bonded to the surface of the tooth. The porcelain material is strong and durable making it an ideal option for long-lasting results, if properly cared for.
Porcelain veneers provide an excellent solution for addressing substantial cosmetic issues and correcting teeth misalignment. Their ability to mirror the natural tooth enamel with their light-reflective and translucent qualities makes them an ideal choice.
Similar to dental crowns, porcelain veneers need to be manufactured, and installing them sometimes requires two appointments. Porcelain veneers are a better choice for large cosmetic issues and teeth misalignment.
Composite vs. porcelain veneers
Which is better: Composite or porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are stronger than composite veneers, so they'll work better if you're looking to improve the appearance of several teeth. While porcelain teeth will still need to be replaced, they last a lot longer than composite veneers. They also don't stain as much.
How much are veneers?
The cost of dental veneers can vary dramatically dependant on factors. Factors like which tooth or teeth are involved, how many teeth require treatment, and your level of private health insurance coverage. Your dental insurance may cover some of your treatment, so be sure to check with your provider.
Payment Plans: Do you require financial assistance for veneers? We offer an exclusive interest-free payment plan called SmileFund. With SmileFund, you can undergo your dental treatment and pay it off over time.

What to expect with porcelain veneers
We understand that cosmetic dentistry procedures can seem a little overwhelming. That’s why we’ve broken it down for you, so you can get a clear understanding of what to expect when getting veneers:
- Consultation: Your journey to a new smile begins with an initial consultation. The consultation allows our dentist to ensure that you're the right candidate for the veneers, based on factors including being free from gum disease, tooth decay, or any other potentially harmful conditions.
- Preparing your veneers: Now it’s time to start preparing your teeth. In order to get the sizing right for your veneers, your dentist will have to trim down some enamel on your teeth - we promise this sounds more painful than it actually is! Next, we take a mould or a scan of your teeth and send it to our manufacturing team, who will get to work creating your sparkly new veneers. Usually, your dentist will then apply some temporary veneers in the interim.
- Applying your veneers: Good news! The hard part is behind you and it’s now time to place your veneers. First up, your dentist will remove the temporary veneers and try your permanent veneers. Once both you and your dentist are happy with the shape and colour of the final veneers, the cementation process will begin. Now admire your brand new smile.
- Recovery: You’ll be glad to know that the recovery process for veneers is minimal. While you may experience some initial sensitivity around the teeth and gums, any soreness or pain can be reduced with a mild pain-killer and a mix of warm water and salt. If any soreness or sensitivity persists after about a week, consider visiting your nearby pharmacist for a solution, or pop back in and see us for a quick consultation.
If you're considering improving your smile and oral health, our team of experienced dental professionals at National Dental Care Findon is here to help you. Frequently asked questions
Veneers and crowns are both effective dental treatments, but they serve different purposes. Veneers are primarily used for cosmetic enhancements, while dental crowns are typically recommended for more extensive tooth restoration.
During your consultation, our dental experts will assess your dental condition and discuss the best treatment option for your specific needs.
Porcelain veneers can take around two to three appointments for the full process, with each appointment taking one to two hours. Composite veneers can usually be done in one appointment.
Getting veneers is not typically painful. Your dentist at National Dental Care Findon will usually numb the area before the treatment for added comfort, but there is very little discomfort, if any.
It's essential to understand that porcelain veneers are a permanent solution that involves some preparation of your natural teeth, such as a light shaving or shaping process. Once you undergo the veneer placement procedure, you won't be able to revert back to your natural teeth.
If you would prefer an option that is more reversible, composite veneers may be a better choice, as you can typically remove them and go back to your natural teeth, your Findon dentist can help advise what would be the best option for you.
Veneers offer a long-term enhancement to your smile, providing you with beautiful and lasting results.
Once your veneers are placed and properly bonded, you can enjoy your favourite foods without any restrictions. While veneers themselves cannot develop cavities, it's crucial to maintain good oral hygiene practices to protect the underlying teeth from decay. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and attending regular dental check-ups are essential for preserving the health of your teeth and gums, even with veneers.
At National Dental Care Findon, our expert dental professionals are available to assist you in achieving your desired smile. We offer both composite and porcelain veneers and will provide you with thorough guidance throughout the entire process.
